What is a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst®?

A CDFA® is someone who comes from a financial planning, accounting, or legal background and goes through an intensive training program to become skilled in analyzing and providing expertise related to the financial issues of divorce.

As a CDFA®, my role is to assist you to identify the short-term and long-term effects of any given divorce settlement option. This may include how the division of property, combined with new or revised income streams, tax implications, and other financial issues relevant to your divorce, will impact your financial future.

Even if you have NOT yet engaged with an attorney, gathering and discussing the above is just as important because you may find the data easier to collect BEFORE things get strained. Remember, Think Financially, Not Emotionally. Your financial future depends on it.

Sage Wealth and LPL Financial do not provide legal advice or services.  Please consult your legal advisor regarding your specific situation.

What is most important to you within the scope of our engagement? We can identify future financial goals, develop a budget and savings plan, discuss retirement goals and risk tolerance, and identify potential tax issues you may face.

We can gather and analyze the financial and expense data related to the settlement, as well as identify the short-term and long-term effects of dividing property. You might need to work with a tax, mortgage or QDRO specialist, and we can facilitate those introductions and incorporate the results.

Can you afford to keep your house, and if not, what might be an affordable alternative? Do you need to evaluate life insurance and ownership of policies? Who is responsible for funding your children's education?

How will you divide pensions and retirement plans? Have you established assumptions that project inflation and rates of return? How much volatility are you willing to see and what are your expectations for growth?

What Should I Do First If I'm Getting a Divorce?

What Should I Do First If I'm Getting a Divorce?

Remember, think financially not emotionally! If you are considering a divorce or have just filed, the earlier you begin to understand your financial picture, the more prepared you will be for your future. I can help you review different financial proposals and help you understand how each settlement option could impact your financial health.

What if we want a Collaborative Divorce?

What if we want a Collaborative Divorce?

As a financial neutral, I can work with you and your spouse together to create a plan that is agreable to both parties.  By working with both of you, in a collaborative environment, minimizing the negative consequences often associated with divorce, I can help form the framework for a financial agreement without going to trial. Especially when children are involved, this process can reduce the legal, emotional and financial stresses of divorce.

What should I do          Post - Divorce?

What should I do          Post - Divorce?

Stay focused; even after your divorce is finalized, there are many important tasks. Opening new accounts, implementing QDROs, and updating beneficiaries are just a few of the items on the to-do list. I can work with you to ensure that this next phase of your life is in your control.
